The Remarkable Railroad Passes of Otto Mears

Otto Mears, the "Pathfinder of the San Juans," issued buckskin, silver (and even a few gold) annual passes for his Silverton Railroad in the years 1888, 1889, 1890, and 1892. This book gives the history of the four widely-distributed passes (buckskin for 1888, stamped silver for 1889, watch chain charm for 1890, and filigree for 1892) and lists the passes publicly known by year, recipient, and serial number. The 1892 filigree pass also was good on the Rio Grande Southern Railroad. Brief biographical information is given for many of the pass recipients.

The book was first published in 1988 and is in its third printing, with supplements in the second and third printings listing passes coming to light since the last printing.

Each book is autographed by the author.
