End-of-Year Donation Appeal

The end of a year always comes with a sense of celebration. We come together with family and friends to celebrate highlights of the past year and the possibilities of the New Year.

And so it is at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Throughout 2015 our members and guests got to witness the renovations, additions, and new mission-based programs that continue to transform the Museum experience.
Restorations, new rider cars and more

· Steam Locomotive #491 received a new boiler-jacket and a restored “dog house” on the top of its tender thanks to the State Historical Fund, and has just gotten a new paint job. She continues to be the new workhorse and pride of our locomotive fleet.

· Steam Locomotive No. 20 is in the final stages of a nearly 10 year, $1.5 million restoration back to service by the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania. We’ll be excited to bring her home in 2016 and get her finished and back on the rails!

· New rider cars were constructed, and two enclosed passenger coaches were purchased to add capacity to our operations! We’re constructing two more rider cars in 2016!

· We added to the back of the Roundhouse so we can keep Locomotive No. 491 steamed up inside overnight during cold weather operations.

· The historic UP Diner and Passenger Coach now have electricity, and will soon be connected to sewer and water! We are excited to be planning some fun dining experiences in the near future!

· We are installing compact shelving in the Robert Richardson research library to significantly increase our storage capacity for our ever-growing collections!

Our vision for an outdoor event space came to life in the new Pavilion.

Families enjoyed the cool shade as they roamed through prehistoric activities during the Dinosaur Express event. And the melodies of the old West never sounded better as they enjoyed Music in the Railyard.

Whether for a picnic lunch, a family reunion, a wedding or corporate event, the Pavilion is a perfect place to gather and experience Colorado rail history.

New mission-based educational programs and exhibits for you

We have exciting new exhibits planned for 2016 including Train Stories: Reading about Trains in Literature opening January 15; Eating on the Rails: A Look at Dining on the Train over Time opening in March, and Colorado Trains in LEGOS beginning in May!

Look for new educational programs in 2016 as well: Book Club and Rails and Cocktails for adults; Storytime and Craft; Family Days; Spring Break activities; and Summer Camps for children!

Without your support, these wonderful improvements and programs simply wouldn’t be possible. So Thank You.
Now, let’s make 2016 another great year to celebrate. I hope we are on our gift list for a special donation to the Colorado Railroad Museum. Your continued support will help us keep rolling strong into the year ahead.
