Number 1342 of a limited edition of 2750 copies of this definitive history of the railroads of the Colorado Cripple Creek gold district. The story of the Florence & Cripple Creek, the Colorado Springs & Cripple Creek District, and the Midland Terminal Railroads which served the Colorado mining town of Cripple Creek. Cripple Creek was easily the most colorful of the world's gold camps, and did not fall far short of being the most productive. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs and delightful line drawings plus 3 full page color paintings by Richard Ward with tissue guards. The tissue guards are decorated with the spider and web pattern associated with the Utes, Native Americans who lived in the area. With maps, locomotive and rolling stock rosters, charts on curves and grades, bridges and tunnels, schematic diagrams and bibliography. There are 6 maps in a rear pocket showing the railroads of the Cripple Creek District (1905), the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad, the Midland Terminal Railroad, the Colorado Springs & Cripple Creek District Railway, the associated companies, and Colorado Springs and vicinity. Sewn binding. 463 pages. Inscribed "with warmest personal regards" and signed by the author. This copy is in nice condition but is missing the dust jacket and scuffing and a few marks on the cover. Inside is a paper clip affixing a receipt from Robert Richardson and explanation of the value of the book
